In 2020, e-commerce was literally everywhere. And for now, its accelerated breakthrough does not seem to be slowing down in 2021. E-commerce sales have broken many records in the last year, from incredible delivery peaks (660.000 parcels a day for Bpost!) to the online breakthrough of formerly difficult categories.

The popularity of online shopping continues to increase year after year. In a recent article we explained that online shopping can – under certain circumstances – have a negative impact on our beloved planet.

When you look for a definition of ‘Growth Marketing’ on the internet, you will most probably read that it’s all about rapid experimentation. At the start of 2016, mobile phone operator BASE Company was officially acquired by Telenet, one of Belgium's leading telecom providers. BASE has always been a young and dynamic company with a strong focus on a great user experience. Looking at the fact that 60% of consumers use chatbots to interact with businesses and the use of Facebook Messenger is popular amongst all age groups, the Telenet team contacted BotBakery, specialized in bringing together artificial intelligence, user interfaces, personalization and user experience through the creation of chatbots. Together with Ingenico, BotBakery’s remit was to set up Belgium’s first telecom recharging ‘top-up’ chatbot with an integrated payment module in Messenger to recharge prepaid cards.

C'est ce que confirme la 5e édition du Baromètre E-commerce de The House of Marketing et SafeShops. Ce Baromètre cartographie le paysage en ligne de notre pays de manière unique en se basant sur les données transactionnelles. Il livre quelques résultats marquants. Les chiffres montrent une croissance de 7,5 % du marché belge du commerce électronique en 2020 par rapport à 2019. Ce marché atteint désormais plus de 8,8 milliards d'euros. En 2020, ce sont aussi plus de 20.000 nouveaux webshops qui ont été créés. La Belgique comptait ainsi un total de 48.000 sites de vente en ligne.
